10-day Flow State Challenge with Eric Hinman

10-day Flow State Challenge with Eric Hinman

We teamed up with Beam partner, endurance athlete and entrepreneur Eric Hinman to help kick off October with a flow state challenge. Creating healthy habits to build into your day to help stay focused and centered is a key to Eric’s success both in physical challenges and business endeavors. “Flow state” for Eric means being completely in the moment for extended periods of time. A mental place where nothing else matters except for the moment you’re in. You aren’t thinking about the future or the past, you’re simply dropped into the current moment.

For the next 10 days we’re asking you to join us in practicing getting into flow state with a few of Eric’s favorite tools including:

  1. Breath work
  2. Yoga
  3. Reading
  4. Movement
  5. Journaling
  6. A personal hobby
  7. Spending time with yourself
  8. Body work or other self care practices
  9. Beam

Read on for a few of Eric’s personal favorites within each category.

Breath work. (meditation)

Breath work is a great way to start or end your day and can be as little as 3 minutes to as long as you’d like! Eric likes XPT training, you can try it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xpt-life/id1399118440

Other apps we enjoy include Prezence, an app filled with tools to help you drop into flow state including meditations. Prezence is gifting our Beam community 14 free days.

Yoga.

Try practicing yoga 1 - 2 times per week. Eric enjoys vinyasa, but pick the style of flow that you most enjoy. Yoga is a great way to check in with your body and mind.

Try Hustl'd. Hustl’d Studio hosts a team of independent instructors, teaching a dynamic line-up of fitness classes, on one virtual platform. We love Beam team member Taryn Burn's Yoga for Athletes class! Hustl'd is offered the Beam family 50% off their first class here, just use code "Beam10DayFlowState".

Reading.

Looking to learn more about flow state, creating mental clarity or stillness? Reading is a great place to start. Here are a few of Eric’s favorite books:

Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday
The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday (fun fact: everyone who joins the Beam team gets a copy of this book!)
The Rise of Superman by Steve Kotler

Pick one, and commit to reading 15 minutes a day or download Blinkist and get 15 minute book summaries.

Movement.

Getting outside for a run or bike ride, or heading to the gym to tune in to your body and out of the chaos around you. Getting out in nature and enjoying movement that feels good for your body is a great way to get into flow state. You’ll often find Eric running or riding up a mountain all over Colorado!

Journaling.

Eric often uses journaling as a time to reflect on people he has great conversations with, and time well shared. Or use it as a gratitude journal, writing down three things that day that “lit you up”. If it was a person, make sure to let them know.

We also love the Daily Writing Dose by (me) Erin, on the Beam team. A daily email sent out with a specific journaling prompt for the day. Sign up here

Hobbies.

Creating time to spend doing hobbies you love is so important. Try practicing a skill-based hobby daily. Handstands, pull-ups, or a fitness goal is a great place to start. But it could also be a creative exercise like painting, drawing or knitting. Something where there is a defined goal or outcome that you can achieve, but interesting enough to keep your mind fully engaged.

Spend time with yourself.

Maybe try spending an hour alone with yourself to simply enjoy your own company. This could be outdoors, meditating, practicing a hobby, running, biking, swimming, the list goes on! See how this makes you feel.

Bodywork / Self Care.

Make sure you also take care of your physical body through things like deep tissue massage, sauna, ice bath, body work, things that activate either your sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system. Plus they just feel great!

Beam.

Try adding in our newest product Focus to your daily routine! Focus is a blend of lion’s mane, ashwagandha, rhodiola, CoQ10, ginkgo bilboa, ginseng, and nano hemp.

Each day make an effort to do at least one of these things, share it on social media tagging both @erichinman and @beam for a chance to win a jar of our Beam Focus capsules. We’ll randomly choose 3 winners on Oct 11th.
